INVISTA advances projects for additional N2O emissions reductions at Victoria site

February 26, 2024
  • Two new abatement projects underway at the INVISTA Victoria, Texas, site
  • Projects expected to drive the site’s overall N2O abatement efficiency to greater than    98 percent with an incremental abatement of more than 500,000 tons of CO2e emissions annually

VICTORIA, Texas – INVISTA has been a global leader in the development of nitrous oxide (N2O) abatement technology for more than two decades having deployed and improved abatement capabilities at multiple adipic acid (AA) facilities since the late 1990s. N2O is a greenhouse gas (GHG) emitted in AA production.

“We’ve been a long-standing leader in N2O abatement and are proud to launch two new projects that will bring additional emissions reductions,” said Adam Remlinger, INVISTA Victoria Plant Manager. “Our ability to make materials for key industries while reducing emissions further demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement.”

The two new projects underway at the INVISTA Victoria site are expected to drive the site’s overall N2O abatement efficiency to greater than 98 percent with an incremental abatement of more than 500,000 tons of CO2e emissions annually1. There are two production units associated with making AA in Victoria, and the new projects will bring additional emissions reductions to both units. Both projects are estimated to come online in mid-2024.

As with all projects, INVISTA took several factors into consideration to enable this project during the decision-making process, including the possibility of utilizing existing pathways in the Voluntary Carbon Market.
